Here is a story from a little exercise book called 'LETTING GO - BRAIN GAMES FOR PERSONAL WELLBEING' by Rosette Poletti and Barbara Dobbs.
"An orange is put in a large pumpkin. The monkey slides his hand inside and takes the fruit. He can't retract his hand because it's holding the orange and, because he doesn't want to let go of it, he's stuck there and is captured."
The question the authors, and I, ask is
"WHAT IS YOUR ORANGE?" "WHAT CAN'T YOU LET GO OF?"
Whatever you can't let go of is keeping you from leaping ahead to success. It's like carrying your airport luggage with the "Caution - Heavy" sign up on your shoulders all the time. It stops you being effective. It stops you embracing new, exciting things fully.
Never fear! Here are a couple of ways you can finally leave your orange behind:
- Take a rock.....write the words that describe your orange....There might be words like - shyness, being too critical, maybe resentment, or guilt........Write the words on the rock......take it somewhere safe (look out below) and cast it away (maybe in the ocean or a river).
- Take a piece of paper .....cut an orange shape and write all of the words that describe feelings you want to let go of........In a place where it is safe, burn it.
Ahhhh!.....Now take a deep breath......In this moment you can begin anew.
- Take a piece of paper and list your strengths, the things that you love to do. Read this list everyday as you look yourself in the eye in a mirror. Know that they will appear in your life everyday from now on.
We'd love to hear of other ways you've left the past habits behind so that you could move towards success and a brilliant future. Leave a comment or connect with us (and 'like') on facebook at
Have a great week all my fellow friends who are rushing to meet their future self!
